Learn to play the harp

I welcome harp students of all ages and love to see harp playing dreams coming true every day in my studio. My special training in Suzuki Method harp instruction allows young children to learn to play beautiful music and gain focus, confidence and coordination as they do. My adult students often find the harp gives them a creative and tangible way to express themselves through music. The harp is a gratifying instrument to learn because the sound is beautiful even for beginners.  Even if you've never played an instrument, you can make music on the harp!

Language is learned by immersion. You hear, you repeat what you hear. you improve as you repeat. Music can be learned the same way. For the harp, learning music by ear allows you to concentrate on good hand technique and keeping your body relaxed as you play. Harp players are expected to look at their hands as they play. When you add music reading to your skill set, you'll master looking at the harp strings, then your music, then back again! But it's just fine to play by ear when you are starting. Most musicians WANT to have a better ear anyway!

Contact me for advice on finding a harp and setting up a try-out lesson. Be assured, most students rent harps in the beginning. I often have rental harps available for my students. Lever harps are an excellent way to learn good hand technique, but I'm a longtime pedal harpist and also love to introduce students to the pedal harp's big sound and wide musical capability.
